With effect from the 1st April 2002, Calsonic International (Europe) plc changed its name to Calsonic Kansei Europe plc.

This follows the merging of Calsonic Corporation of Japan and Kansei Corporation in 2000, creating Japan's third-largest vehicle parts maker headquartered in Tokyo. This merger was driven by the need to survive intense global competition, particularly in the automotive supply of vehicle modules, and to improve the efficiency of research and development for modules and component systems.

The change of name in Europe has been made to avoid confusion with customers who deal with our parent company, Calsonic Kansei Corporation, on a worldwide basis and to better reflect our Japanese parentage and help integrate the organisation more closely. The North America arm of the corporation changed its name to Calsonic Kansei North America in 2001.

The synergy achieved by the merger of the two Japanese corporations means that Calsonic's technology in air-conditioning, engine cooling and exhaust systems will now be complemented by Kansei's in-vehicle systems including instrument panels, information display, meters, wiring harnesses, sensors and air-bags.

Modular products, such as the front-end module (cooling pack, bumper, headlights) and cockpit modules, (air intakes, instrument panel, climate controls, driver information meters, air-bags and steering seating) are seen by Calsonic Kansei as the products of the future demanded by car-makers looking for increased car-building efficiency and reduced costs by integrating components from several suppliers.
